No-exam life insurance

Eligibility requirements for fast-track approval, operational details, and what occurs if you don't qualify.

Many carriers now provide accelerated underwriting: when candidates fall within age and limit parameters, the carrier makes a determination by analyzing the application materials, medication records, driving history and associated information rather than requiring in-person testing. Several carriers can deliver a decision within 24 hours. Each rate displayed shows whether testing is mandatory, conditional, or unnecessary.

What it changes

Skipping the medical examination is different from avoiding underwriting review. Your statements get validation, and policies derived from untrue statements may be voided during the first 24 months. If company information uncovers inconsistencies, an exam or testing could still be requested; you then decide whether to go forward.

Who tends to qualify

Applicants generally under age 60 seeking amounts within the carrier's fast-track limit, with no serious health conditions and having not used tobacco for at least one year, typically qualify. Some carriers will use recent bloodwork from a physician visit instead of conducting their own exam.

If a paramedical exam is needed, plan for a 20- to 30-minute appointment at your Los Banos location with a qualified examiner, at zero expense. Positive exam results may improve your underwriting classification, making the visit worthwhile.
